Position Overview

Vision IT is seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Lead / Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support mission-critical operations at Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB). The selected candidate will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for base-level cybersecurity operations and will work directly with the Base Cybersecurity Office (BCO) to ensure the continuous security, operational availability, and reliability of IT systems and equipment supporting the LAAFB mission.

This role requires extensive experience in cybersecurity operations, risk management, compliance, and secure systems administration within Department of Defense (DoD) environments. The ISSO will provide technical leadership, cybersecurity oversight, and guidance to ensure compliance with all applicable security directives, policies, and operational requirements in accordance with PWS paragraph 3.10.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Cybersecurity Lead and primary ISSO supporting enterprise IT operations at LAAFB.
  • Work closely with the Base Cybersecurity Office (BCO) to ensure continuous security, operational availability, and reliability of mission systems and infrastructure.
  • Act as the SME for base-level cybersecurity operations, policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity policies, RMF requirements, STIGs, and applicable security directives.
  • Support cybersecurity assessments, audits, inspections, and accreditation activities.
  • Monitor and assess system security posture, vulnerabilities, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate incident response activities, remediation efforts, and cybersecurity reporting requirements.
  • Review and validate system configurations, security controls, and technical implementations for compliance and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop, maintain, and update cybersecurity documentation, policies, procedures, and system security plans.
  • Provide technical guidance and cybersecurity recommendations to Government leadership and operational teams.
  • Collaborate with systems administrators, network engineers, and operations personnel to ensure secure and compliant IT operations.
  • Support continuous monitoring initiatives and cybersecurity awareness efforts across the enterprise.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant cybersecurity, information assurance, or information systems security experience.
  • Extensive experience supporting cybersecurity operations within DoD or government environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Risk Management Framework (RMF), NIST standards, STIG implementation, and DoD cybersecurity policies.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting system accreditation, vulnerability management, and compliance activities.
  • Proven ability to analyze cybersecurity risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Experience coordinating with cybersecurity offices, auditors, and operational stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-security, mission-critical environments.

DCWF Requirement

  • DCWF Role: Information Systems Security Manager (722) – Advanced

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or Space Force cybersecurity operations.
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CASP+, Security+, CISM, or equivalent DoD-approved cybersecurity certifications.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security tools, vulnerability management platforms, and SIEM technologies.
  • Experience supporting classified and unclassified network environments.
  • Active Secret Clearance or Above
  • Work Location
